Abstract:

The study was conducted to identify the views of children aged 4-6 years of age on the internal and external structural characteristics of the children’s books that they receive according to the school type variable. The research method has been used. The study included a total of 500 mothers living in the center of the province of Ankara and selected by the appropriate sampling method. The data was analyzed using the SPSS 20.00 package program with Ki Quare (X2). To the mothers, "Children's Book External and Internal Structure Characteristics Survey" was applied. In the survey, the mothers were asked questions about what they generally pay attention when buying books to their children, about the interior characteristics; about the subject and hero characteristics and the exterior characteristics; about the skin, cover, size and painting characteristics in the book. The study found that children who go to public and private schools pay more attention to their developmental characteristics when they buy their children books than the mothers who don’t send their children to school; the mothers who don’t send their children to school pay more attention to their children’s appearance than the mothers who go to public and private schools, and that good quality books are expensive. According to the kind of school in which children continue, in the books that mothers receive to their children there is no meaningful difference between the external structure characteristics and the skin and cover characteristics and the interior structure characteristics and the heroic characteristics; from the external structure characteristics to the painting, the size characteristics and the interior structure characteristics there is a meaningful difference between the subject characteristics.
