Türkler İç Asya’da çeşitli boylar halinde yaşamışlardır. Farklı Türk boyları buradan birçok coğrafyaya göç etmiştir. Bu göçler İslamiyet öncesinde gerçekleştiği gibi İslamiyet sonrasında da meydana gelmiştir. Türkler gittikleri coğrafyalarda güçlü idari yapı kurarak aynı zamanda hâkimiyet alanlarını da genişletmişlerdir. Göç eden Türk boylarından birisi de Kınık boyuna mensup olan Selçuklular’dır. Selçuklular Türk Tarihinde önemli bir yere sahiptir. 11. yüzyılın ilk yarısında tarih sahnesine güçlü bir biçimde ortaya çıkan Selçuklular, Türk-İslam kültürünün oluşmasında önemli derece rol oynamışlardır. Onlar sahip olduğu bu önem dolayısıyla tarihin ilgi konusu haline gelmişlerdir. Bu bakımdan Selçukluların atası olan Selçuk Bey, tarihçilerin ilgisini çekmiştir. Bu çalışma Selçuk Bey’e dair genel bir değerlendirmedir. Bu anlamda öncelikle Selçukluların bağlı oldukları boy olan Oğuz Türklerinin ata yurdu incelenecek ve Oğuzların kısa bir tarihlerine bakılacaktır. Ardından Selçuk Bey’in adı, kimliği, çocukları ve torunları ele alınacaktır. Son olarak ise Selçukluların tarih sahnesine çıkışı incelenecektir. Bu çalışmada modern literatürden istifade edilmiştir. Söz konusu çalışmayla bazı modern çalışmalar tarafından meydana getirilen bu anlamdaki araştırmalar değerlendirilmiş olacaktır.
Abstract The Turks lived in Central Asia in different tribes. Different Turkish tribes migrated to many geographical areas. These migrations occurred before and after Islam. The Turks established a strong administrative structure in the regions they migrated and expanded their sovereignty areas. One of the Turkish tribes who migrated was the Seljuks they belonged to the Kınık tribe. Seljuks have an important place in Turkish history. The Seljuks, who emerged strongly on the stage of history in the first half of the 11th century, played an important role in the formation of Turkish-Islamic culture. They have become a subject of interest for history because of these importance. In this respect, Seljuk Bey, the ancestor of the Seljuks, has attracted the attention of historians. This study is about Seljuk Bey a general assessment. In this sense, firstly, the homeland of the Oghuz Turks, the tribe to whom the Seljuks belong, will be examined. The history of the Oghuzes will be examined briefly. Then the name, identity, children and grandchildren of Seljuk Bey will be discussed. Finally, the rise of the Seljuks to the stage of history will be examined. In this study, modern literature has been utilized. With this study, some researches in this direction created by modern studies will be evaluated.
