Abstract:

Turkish-American bilateral relations often described as a strategic partnership. The very special relationship flourished after the II. World War during the Marshall Aid Programme and Turkish attepmt to became NATO member. But those two country join to I. World War and fought at the opposite sites. After the war, just in the first years of the Turkish War of Independence, Greece became volunterally spearhead of the West and try to invade Anatolia. That invasion attempt began in İzmir (Smyrna) Province under the protection offered by the US Navy. But the starting point of the bilateral relations between US and Turkey, then Ottoman Empire,was an confontration called ‘Barbary Wars’. The Barbary Wars consist of an two seperate wars. It was just left a few track in Turkish history and not known very well but in US the war memorial baptized in the US Marine Coprs’s Hym with the saying “To the shores of Tripoli.”
