Abstract:

The aim of this study is to develop Marital Typolgy Scale (MTS) and investigate its psychometric properties. The participant of this study consisted of 610 married individual live in various cities in Turkey. 67,7 % of the participants are female (n:413) and the 32,3% are male (n:197). Average age of the participants is 35.73 (Ss=6.54). Data is collected from 3 groups in this scale development process. There are 50 married individuals; 60,0% female (n=30) and 40,0% male (n=20), in the first group accessed for testing the clearness of the phrases listed in the item pool. There are 253 married individual (n=164) female 64,8% and  (n=89) male in the second group for testing the construct validity of the scale (EFA). In the last group, there are 307 married individuals; (n=219) female 71,3% and (n=88) male 28,7% for confirmatory factor analysis that is used to test how well the measured variables represent the number of constructs f the model. According to factor analysis results there are three factors and these three factors accounts for the 45,08% of total variance. Internal consistency and test splitting methods were used for reliability of the scale. The Cronbach Alpha coefficient, calculated to determine internal consistency, is .92. Split-half reliability coefficient was .83 for the first half and .84 for the second half. Overall findings demonstrated that this scale had high validity and reliability scores. In addition, it can be said that this scale can be used in academic studies related to marriage and family counseling.
