Özet:

Abstract The paper seeks to assess the deliberativeness of reader comments on the site of Folha de S. Paulo. We analyze 130 postings linked to two stories: the arrest of the governor of Brasilia, José Roberto Arruda, and agreement on nuclear energy between Brazil and Iran. Besides the commentaries, we analyze the newspaper's Web site, its discursive tools and the political positioning of the participants. We conclude that there was a relevant deliberativeness in the discussion analyzed, but that most participants sought victory in the discussion instead of mutual understanding. In the end, we consider some potentialities for increasing democratic values through the supply of discursive tools by news sites. Downloads Download data is not yet available.
