Because of its geopolitical position and rich natural resources, region of Southern Anatolia and Taurus Mountains witnessed conflicts between Assyrians Phrygians, Urartians and Ionians. Especially in the seventh campaign of Sargon II in BC. 715, it’s understood that its diplomatic rivals compelled them largely. For these aforesaid powers; the region was charming so that many military activities and diplomatic schemes came into being in this area. The most extensive information about this topic is obtained from the letter which was written by Sargon II to the mayor of Que named Aşşur-şarra-usur in BC. 710-709. Besides illuminating the historical geography of BC. VIII; the letter which was found in Nimrud (=Kalhu) it also gives important clues about that period’s diplomatic circumstances. It’s understood that; in the backround of the campaigns organized by Sargon II, there were Phrygians and Urartians who constantly had attemped to decrease Assyrian impact on the region. This article’s topic is composed of region of Southern Anatolia and Taurus Mountains’ political conditions and the diplomatic relations in the Sargon II era. In this aspect the study inclues a general evalution of the aforesaid region’s historical geography
