Abstract:

Vienna Actionism is a performance-based, short-lived but very strong movement that emerged in Vienna in the early 1960s, considering the purpose of artistic action to release subconsciousness and instinct. The Vienna Actionists have given the radical examples of performance art. A manifesto has never been published since the actions were not planned in advance. The existing Vienna Art Ecology, the Fluxus, the Performance Art, the Body Art and the Southeast Exorcism can be considered as an advanced dimension of the combination. The purpose of the text is to reveal the mental basis of Vienna Actionism, which is an important part of this branch, by referring to the basic thought system and the notable names of performing art, which is the starting point of the topic, and to examine its effects on European experimental cinema and video art through examples. In addition to the study of written sources, the analysis of the art works that reflect the subject was made.
