Abstract:

Sport, one of the most important social phenomena of today, has many dimensions worth research. The transformation of sport in the historical process and how it is understood by individuals, differences regarding the purpose of doing sport, social gender relationships and the impact of socio-economic factors gain importance in the socio-economic analysis of sport. At the sport, actors/files can also play an active role. While sports activities that become one of the important areas of urban life are transformed into practices presented with concerns or purposes such as physical beauty, aesthetics, health; this situation also prepares the ground for sport to be treated as a consumption object. While the sports halls/centres are highlighted as urban spaces that serve individuals from each section, there are differences in the sports practices of individuals who go to these halls. In this study, using quality research methods, it was found that the main reason for doing sports is health, but objectives such as physical aesthetics and beauty have also been considered significantly by individuals. While social gender differences are changing from the past; socio-economic factors have been found to be determining, although they are not at very severe limits.
