Aim: The research was planned and conducted in order to identify the nutritional status of adolescents and boys in adolescents basketballs, to determine the dietary habits, to identify differences among each other and to propose healthy nutrition habits with sports to ensure healthy growth and development. Method: This study was carried out between 01.12.2016 and 20.02.2017 on a total of 112 students, including 46 girls and 66 boys basketball players aged 11-17 in basketball clubs of 36 schools in Sakarya. The study was conducted via the questionnaire method. According to the questionnaire application, sportsmen 's nutritional choices, nutritional knowledge levels, anthropometric measurements, growth and development status and nutritional status were questioned and compared according to sex. The results were analyzed with SPSS 23 program and the 95% confidence level was calculated. In the study, t test was used from parametric test techniques. Findings: According to research findings, when nutritional status of male and female adolescent basketball players are examined; egg, meat, white bread consumption, food preferences are different. For example, female basketball players prefer to consume vegetables, fruits and whole-grain bread, while male basketball players prefer meat, eggs and white bread. The percentiles of the majority of the athletes participating in the survey are in the normal range. A small number of malnourished and obese athletes were found. When questioned about the reasons for doing sports, it is stated that they are not aiming to lose weight, they do sports because they enjoy it. Conclusion: Our results indicate that the knowledge of male and female basketball players on sport specific nutrition is very limited. Nutrition training should be given to sportsmen, their families and their coaches in order to increase their knowledge level.
