Özet:

The aim of this study is to identify the opinions of Turkmen students about history and identity. In line with this goal, Turkmenist students have studied the Turkish concept, the meanings they put on to the concept of history. To better understand this situation, students have been asked what state they feel close to in history, what countries are friends and enemies to their states today, who are their heroes in history, whether there is a difference between history courses in their countries and history courses in Turkey. The students were asked why they prefer Turkey to study. In this study, the method of research has been used. Thirty-six Turkmenist students were reached with a cartridge approach in the examples. The data applied and obtained from the application created by the researchers were evaluated by the method of content analysis and presented in tables with frequency values. Because students answer multiple questions in the questionnaire form, there are differences between the number of students and the frequency values in some tables. Looking at the findings obtained from the research, Turkmen students see history as a science that explores history. The Turkmen student’s friendly state is largely seen as Turkey, while they have defined Afghanistan as a dangerous state. Students who participated in the study identified the greatest heroes as the Köroğlu and Horror At. Turkmen students have said that the topics of Turkmenistan and Turkmenistan history lessons are almost the same, except in recent history. Turkmen students have expressed the reasons why they prefer Turkey for education as cultural proximity, linguistic similarity and the level of higher education in Turkish universities.

Özet:

The aim of this study is to determine Turkmenistanian students’ ideas about history and identity. In line with this purpose, the opinions of Turkmenistanian students were sought on the concept of Turkish, their thoughts on the concept of history, the states they felt close to in history, countries that are friends and enemies to their state today, who their heroes are in history, whether there is a difference between the history lessons in their country and the history lessons in Turkey. Answers were sought to the questions posed about the lack of education and why they preferred Turkey for education. In this study, in which the qualitative research method was adopted, the phenomenology model was used. Thirty-six Turkmenistan students were reached with the snowball approach in the sample selection. The application was made with the "question form" created by the researchers and the data were evaluated by the content analysis method and presented in tables with frequency values. Due to the fact that the students gave multiple answers to some questions in the questionnaire, there were differences between the number of students and the frequency values in some tables. Looking at the findings obtained from the research, Turkmen students see history as a science that researches the past. While students from Turkmenistan see Turkey as a friendly state to a large extent, they think that Afghanistan is a dangerous state. The students participating in the research saw that their greatest heroes were Köroğlu and Korkut Ata, and they said that the subjects of Turkey and Turkmenistan history lessons were almost the same, except for recent history. It has also been identified that students from Turkmenistan stated the reasons for preferring Turkey for education as cultural proximity, language similarity and education level of Turkish universities.
