Abstract:

This research is an illustrative study aimed at researching the factors that influence university students’ film preferences. A survey form prepared for approximately 100 university students studying in the Department of Sociology of the University of Bingöl has been applied. This survey form contains questions about what kind of movie students watch most, how often they go to the cinema, what is the basic motivation to watch the movie. Answers to the survey were addressed with illustrative statistics and differences were tested according to gender variables. The findings have been a guide to the achievement of answers to a number of questions in the intellectual sense related to that age range, in addition to the discovery of the fundamental variables in film watching by university students. There are also some similarities observed in the film preferences, along with various gender differences. In light of these findings, the kinds and purposes of university students in the cinema and films will be discussed from a modern culture perspective.
