Abstract:

The aim of this research is to examine the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Quality of Life Inventory-Disability (QI-Disability). The psychometric properties of the scale were investigated by test re-test, Cronbach’s alpha, confirmatory factor analysis, and concurrent validity methods. The participants of the research were 394 (129 girls and 263 boys) children who were diagnosed with intellectual disability in Sivas. According to the results of confirmatory factor analysis, the six-dimensional QI-disability model (physical health, positive emotions, negative emotions, social interaction, leisure and the outdoors, and independence) was a good fit [CMIN/df =2.10; (p=.00), RMSEA =.053, CFI =.91, and TLI =.90]. In the concurrent validity, a significant positive relationship (r=.42) was found between the QI-Disability and the Life Satisfaction Scale. The Cronbach’s alpha internal consistency coefficient was found as α=.92 for the whole scale and also α=.75, .78, .81, .86, .85, .84 respectively for subscales. For the entire scale, the test-retest reliability coefficient was.99. The corrected item-total correlations of the QI-Disability ranged from.43 to.73. Overall findings demonstrated that this scale had acceptable validity and high reliability scores and that it may be used in order to measure the degree of quality of life in children with disabilities accurately.
