Günümüzde web siteleri tüm kurumların iletişim ve bilgi sağlama konusunda ana kaynaklarından biri haline gelmiştir. Bu web sitelerinin tüm kullanıcılar tarafından etkin bir şekilde kullanılabilmesi önemlidir. Özellikle engelli kullanıcıların web tarafından sunulan hizmetlere erişimde sorun yaşayabildikleri bilinmektedir. Bu nedenle web sitesi geliştiricilerinin özellikle uygulamalarının erişilebilirliğini sağlamaları bunun için de web sitelerinin erişilebilirliklerini değerlendirerek varsa problemleri gidermeleri oldukça önemlidir. Web sitesi erişilebilirlik değerlendirmelerinde genellikle otomatik değerlendirme araçları ile gerçekleştirilen uygunluk testleri kullanılmaktadır. Bu yöntem ile var olan problemler listelenmekte ancak problemlerin önceliklendirilmesini ya da çözüm önerileri sağlanmamaktadır. Diğer taraftan bu çalışma kapsamında buna alternatif olarak kullanılabilecek olan sezgisel bir değerlendirme yaklaşımı olan bariyer gezinti (BG) yönteminin kullanım potansiyeli incelenmektedir. BG değerlendiricilerin problemleri farklı kullanıcı türlerine göre tespit edip önceliklendirmelerini sağlamakta ve çözüm önerilerini de içinde barındırmaktadır. Çalışmada BG kullanılarak farklı düzeylerde erişilebilirlik problemine sahip üç kamu üniversite web sitesinin görme engeli bulunan kullanıcılar açısından erişilebilirlik değerlendirilmesi yapılmaktadır. Bu yöntemin uygulanması ile görme engelli, görme zayıflığı olan ve renk körlüğü olan kullanıcıların sitelerde görevlerini yerine getirmesini engelleyen durumların belirlenmesi ve bunların ortadan kaldırılmasını sağlayacak iyileştirmelerin önerilmesi sağlanmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın kamu kurum ve kuruluşlarının web sitelerinin özellikle görme engelli bireylerin erişim problemlerini en aza indirilmesi için katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.

Nowadays, websites have become one of the main sources of all institutions, especially for their communication and information provision. It is essential that these websites can be used effectively by all users. It is known that some user groups such as disabled users may have problems in accessing the services offered by the web. Thus, it is very important for website developers to ensure the accessibility of their websites, by conducting evaluations to overcome the accessibility problems. Generally conformance tests performed by automatic evaluation tools are used. With this method, the existing accessibility problems are listed, but the prioritization of the problems or solution suggestions are not provided. On the other hand, within the scope of this study, the potential use of the Barrier Walkthrough (BW) method, which is kind of heuristic evaluation method guided by accessibility barriers that can be used as an alternative, is examined. BW enables evaluators to identify and prioritize problems according to different user types and provides solutions. In the study, accessibility evaluation of three public university websites with different levels of accessibility problems was conducted in terms of visually impaired users using BW. With the implementation of this method, it was aimed to reveal the barriers that prevent users who were blind, low vision or color blind from performing their goals and to provide suggesting to eliminate the problems. It is believed that this study will contribute to minimizing the accessibility problems of the websites of public institutions and organizations, especially for visually impaired individuals.
