Öz Hüsameddin Çelebi’nin Hz. Mevlana’dan Senaî’nin İlâhî-nâme’si, Feridüddin Attar’ın Mantıku’t-Tayr’ı gibi bir eser kaleme almasını istemesi üzerine Hz. Mevlana’nın sarığının altından ilk on sekiz beyti içeren kâğıdı uzatmasıyla yazımına başlanan Mesnevî, tarihte birçok şekilde şerhe tabi tutulmuştur. Bu şerhler bir beytin, bir hikâyenin, bir bölümün, bir cildin, aynı konu etrafında toplanan beyitlerin, seçkinin ve tamamının şerhi olarak gerçekleştirildiği gibi, hem bizzat Mevlana tarafından yazılması hem de Mevlevîlikte 18 rakamına yüklenen anlamlar dolayısıyla, “ilk 18 beyit şerhi” şeklinde de yapılabilmiştir. Şerhlerde Mesnevî'nin özü, esası olarak kabul edilegelen ilk 18 beyte ayrı bir önem verilmiş ve bu kısım şârihin şerhteki maharetini de işaret eder olmuştur. Mesnevi-i Manevî’yi şerh eden müelliflerden biri de XVII. yüzyılda yaşamış olan Vehbi-i Yemanî’dir. Bu makalede, Vehbi-i Yemanî’nin Mevlana’nın Mesnevi’si özelinde kaleme aldığı iki eserinden biri olan Kitab-ı Ruhani fi Şerh-i Mesnevi-i Muhtasar-ı Nurani adlı eseri inceleme metni olarak ele alınacaktır. Söz konusu eser, tasnifi itibarıyla sadece ilk 18 beytin şerhini içeren müstakil bir şerh olmayıp tamamı Mesnevî’nin ilk 143 beytine yapılan şerhi kapsamaktadır. Fakat bu çalışmada hem şârihin şerh metodunu tespitte kısaca ön ayak olduğu için hem de ilk 18 beytin Mesnevi için ayrı bir önemi haiz olduğundan, konu sınırları bu haliyle belirlenmiştir.
