Abstract:

The /ñ/ sound, which is one of the controversial sounds of Turkish, is a sound that many researchers deal with in terms of the degree of contact, after-apron, whether it is a phoneme, whether it is primary or not, and whether it is a combined sound. The sound in question can be detected in various proportions since the first written texts of Turkish. The /ñ/ sound can be seen in Turkish texts from historical periods to contemporary periods with special markings as a letter. In addition, the /ñ/ consonant is a sound that can be exemplified in many of the Altaic languages with its various variants. The study in question is based on the comparative analysis of the situation of this consonant, which is defined as one of the palatal consonants, in Contemporary Turkish dialects with the Old Turkish period. In the Old Turkish period, the words containing the sound in question were determined and the situations of this consonant at the beginning, in the word and at the end of the word were examined in Oghuz, Kipchak North East and Karluk group Turkish dialects with a simultaneous and comparative method. The study is a phonetic study based on the written languages of the dialects in question, and the dialects of these dialects are not included in the study. The results reached in the study were stated in the "Conclusion" section and the status of the sounds in question was shown schematically with tables.
