Abstract:

It is not possible for people to extract a new word for each concept. Because the words in the language are limited while the objects, events, facts, and concepts to be named are in unlimited numbers. This also obliges some of the new concepts to be explained with existing words. There is a variety of meaning in the words. The different uses of the words, the forms in the different appearances of the language, the new meanings they gain over time; they provide important data in terms of understanding. The fact that almost all the meanings given in the Turkish Dictionary for the straight word are within the scope of the scope shows the characteristic direction of the word. The word that expresses the basic meaning of "not inclined, found in the direction of the landscape according to a layer" has gained new meaning dimensions, different uses and different meaning interests over time. It is interesting that some of these meanings are negative, some of them are positive qualities. It is also seen that the terms are derived from the fields of geometry, astronomy, zoology, linearity and music. In this article we will focus on how the straight word is used in Turkish, how it is varied in terms of meaning and expression, and with this diversity, what dimensions of meaning the word has gained. With this purpose, the united words and phrases created by the straight word will be studied; the dictionary units loaded with negative and positive meanings will be determined. Since the Standard Turkish is a simultaneous study based on Turkish, the historical and contemporary languages of Turkish have been left out of the scope of the special languages such as the Anadolu mouths and argo.
