The manuscript named Vakıat-ı Emir Timur (Memoirs of Emir Timur) is a translation of a Persian manuscript. It was presented as a PhD thesis in 2013, (with the transcription of the text, including its translation into Turkey Turkish with grammar analysis) in the field of Turkish language. It is known by different names in the literature such as Tüzükat-ı Timuri, Mülfüzat-ı Timuri, Vakıat-ı Sahibkıran. It was translated from Persian to Chagatai Turkish by Hatıf in 1836 and presented to the Khan of Khokand, Muhammed Ali Khan. The manuscript, which first appeared in the Indian geography and claimed to have been written by Timur himself, was translated from its Turkish original into Persian by Ebu Talib Hüseyni et-Türbeti in 1637 and presented to the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Shah Jahan commissioned a palace clerk named Mohammad Afzal Bukhari to harmonize the manuscript with Yazdi’s Zafername. Tüzükat, which was translated into English by William Davy in 1783, was presented to the whole world as an autobiography of Timur. Between the 18th and 20th centuries, while it was accepted as an original source with its translations into French, English, Urdu and Eastern Turkish, on the other hand, it was ignored or considered as a false case written by imitating Babur Shah’s memoirs by a group of academics working on the history of Timurid who are trying to carry out their studies on a scientific basis. Two centuries after its emergence in the Indian geography, its presentation to a Turkish ruler in the Farghana valley, also shows the use of the Timurid cult as a basis of legitimacy in the meaning of a propaganda accepted in the official discourse. In this article, it will be discussed how the Khoqand Dynasty, which had been separated from the Bukhara Khanate in 1709 and established a government in the Fergana valley, formed its own discourses by establishing false genealogies, violating the tradition of “coming from the lineage of Genghis Khan to be a ruler” prevailing in Central Asia.
