In this study, it has been revealed that how European Union member countries use EU Turkey relations and Turkey’s EU membership discourse for their internal election debate through media outlets, especially in electoral and referendum periods. In this context, 2017 Netherlands - Turkey diplomatic crises and the process before 2016 Brexit referandum selected as case studies and the news related to Turkey was analyzed via discourse analysis method in these periods in international media. In conclusion, it has been observed that during the electoral and referendum periods concerning EU, the political discourses related to Turkey instrumentalized by media to influence public opinion, to steer voters feelings and preferences and to influence the election results by reviving prejudices against Turkey.
