This study was carried out to identify the reference point strategies used by 7th graders while comparing fractions. Thirteen 7th graders composed the sample of the study in which purposeful sampling was used to select the participants. Seven questions which enable students to use reference point strategies were asked to students. Written and oral answers given to the questions were recorded and used as data. As a result of qualitative and quantitative analyzes of answers, it was found out that 7th graders are not able to use reference point strategies very effectively and they are apt to find common denominator while comparing fractions.
