Abstract:

In this research, it was aimed to metasynthesize by re-examining the qualitative studies in depth on the behavior of school administrators that affect teachers' motivation. TÜBİTAK Ulakbim National Database, Council of Higher Education (YÖK) National Thesis Center, Google Scholar and Dergipark databases were scanned and 189 relevant studies were reached. Eight studies, examined within the framework of inclusion and exclusion criteria, constituted the data source of this study. As a result of the content analysis, the behaviors of school administrators, which have positive and negative effects on teachers' motivation, were gathered under the themes of organizational-administrative motivation tools and psycho-social motivation tools. While the positive sub-themes of the organizational-administrative motivation tools theme are achieving unity of purpose, taking a role in the education process, exhibiting fair and democratic behaviors and using leadership behaviors; the negative sub-themes were found to behave indifferent, not taking part in educational activities, exhibiting unfair behaviors, autocratic management style and not using leadership behaviors. On the other hand, It was concluded that positive sub-themes of the psycho-social motivation tools theme are valuing, psychological security, providing positive interaction and communication and using reward and appreciation; negative sub-themes consist of not valuing, not being able to provide psychological trust and using negative interaction and communication. In line with the results, it can be suggested to school administrators to focus on the themes of this study in order to increase the motivation of teachers.
