Abstract:

The choice of a career is a very important decision where it directly affects all areas of a person’s life. This choice is often made by the influence of external factors more than the person’s own desires. Therefore, individuals are forced to do professions that are not consistent with their personality characteristics and interests. This situation creates disagreements between professions and persons and affects the business life of individuals in a negative way. Individuals' decision on career preference usually starts to form in university years. Moving from here; in this study, the harmony between the professional preferences and personalities of university students was studied within the framework of Holland's professional personality theory. The purpose of the study is to determine the career preferences of the graduate students of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University and to investigate whether these preferences and personality types are compatible. Based on Holland's professional personality theory, the data collected by the survey technique was analyzed and the results of the analysis were found that there was a disconnection between students' personality types and professional preferences in general.
