Zihin haritaları bir öğretim ve öğrenim tekniği olarak son yıllarda sıklıkla kullanılmaktadır. Pek çok araştırmacıya göre zihin haritaları bazı temel kavramları kalıcı olarak öğretmek ve görsel not almak için öğrencilere hızlı ve eğlenceli bir yoldur. Bununla birlikte zihin haritaları öğrencilerin kavram yanılgılarını belirlemek için de kullanılabilmektedir. Günümüzde sosyal bilgiler eğitiminin en önemli hedeflerinden biri toplumlar için bilgili becerikli aktif vatandaşlar yetiştirmektir. Bu bağlamda pek çok ülke gibi ülkemizde de vatandaşlık bilgileri kavramları ile ilgili sosyal bilgiler derslerinin öğrencileri yeterli düzeyde eğitip eğitemediği bitmez tükenmez bir tartışma konusudur. Bu çalışmanın amacı, ilköğretim 5. sınıf öğrencilerinin vatandaşlık bilgileri ile ilgili kavram yanılgılarının zihin haritama tekniği ile belirlemektir. Çalışma grubu 32 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Çalışmada, öğrencilerin vatandaşlık bilgileri ile ilgili görüşlerini alabilmek amacı ile öğrencilerden “Hak”; “Sorumluluk”, “Kültür ve Milli Kültür”, “Atatürk İlke ve İnkılapları”, olmak üzere toplamda 4 konu başlıklı zihin haritası çizdirilmiştir. Daha sonra onlarla zihin haritaları ile ilgili mülakatlar yapılmıştır. Sonuçlar göstermiştir ki bazı öğrenciler vatandaşlık bilgileri ile ilgili kavram yanılgılarına sahiptir. Bunun en önemli nedeni vatandaşlık bilgilerinin soyut kavramlar içermesidir. Bu çalışmadan anlaşılmaktadır ki sosyal bilgiler derslerinde öğrenciler soyut kavramları öğrenmede güçlük çekmektedirler.
Mind maps have been frequently used in recent years as a teaching and learning technique. According to many researchers, mind maps are a fast and fun way for students to teach some basic concepts permanently and get visual notes. However, mind maps can also be used to identify the student's conceptual errors. Today, one of the most important objectives of social information education is to educate informed and skilled active citizens for communities. In this context, like many countries in our country, the concept of citizenship information is an endless topic of discussion where social information courses relating to the concepts of citizenship information teach students on a sufficient level or not. The purpose of this study is the 5th. It is to identify the conceptual errors related to the citizenship information of class students with the mind maping technique. The study group consists of 32 students. In the study, students were drawn a mind map with a total of 4 subjects, including "Right"; "Responsibility", "Culture and National Culture", "Atatürk Principles and Inklapes", in order to get their opinions on citizenship information. Then there were conversations with them about mind maps. The findings showed that some students have conceptual errors regarding citizenship information. The main reason for this is that citizenship information contains abstract concepts. This study makes it clear that in social knowledge classes students have difficulty learning abstract concepts.

According to some researchers, mind maps are an entertaining and faster way to taking visual notes and teaching some basic concepts permenantly. Besides this, it can be used to determin the misconceptions of students. At the present time, one of the most important aim of Social Studies education is to educate knowledgeable, skillful active citizens for society. In this context like many other countries, in our contry it is discussing wheter the social studies lessons educate enough or not the students about citizenship information concepts. The aim of this study is to determine the misconceptions about citizenship knowledge concepts of the 5th grade students with mind mapping tecnique. The working group involve 32 students. In the study, students made mind maps about 4 title which contains “Right”, “Responsibility”, “Culture and National Culture”, “Ataturk Principles and Reforms”. After that, interviewed with students about these mind maps. Results showed that some students had misconceptions about citizenship knowledge. The most important reason is citizenship knowledge contains abstract concepts. It can be understand from this study that students have difficulties to learn abstract concepts in social sstudies lessons.
