2006 yılında sosyal, eğitimsel ve politik açıdan beklentileri yerine getirmek amacıyla Yüksek Öğretim Kurulu (YÖK) tarafından eğitim fakülteleri müfredatları değiştirilmiştir; yeni programda uygulamalı içeriklere daha fazla yer verilmiştir (Coşkun, 2008; Seferoğlu, 2006). Yeni müfredat dil programları için ortak bir temel sağlayan Avrupa Dilleri Ortak Çerçeve Programı'na (CEFR) dayandırılmıştır. Yeni programdaki bu gelişmelere rağmen, çok az sayıda çalışma yeni İngiliz Dili Öğretmen Eğitimi müfredatı ve CEFR arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemiştir (Hismanoğlu,2013). Bu çalışma, Hacettepe Üniversitesi İngiliz Dili ve Eğitimi 4. Sınıf öğrencilerinin CEFR ve ELP’ ye yönelik farkındalık düzeylerini ortaya çıkarmayı amaçlamıştır. İngilizce öğretmeni adaylarına, CEFR, ELP ve bunlarla alakalı kavramların ne düzeyde farkında olduklarını incelemek amacıyla Hismanoğlu’ndan (2013) uyarlanan kısa bir anket uygulanmıştır. Anketlerden elde edilen veri SPSS aracılığıyla analiz edilmiştir. Sonuçlar İngilizce öğretmeni adaylarının birçoğunun CEFR ve ELP hakkında bilgi sahibi olmadıklarını ve CEFR’ın dil öğretim yöntemleri üzerinde etkili olup olmadığına dair bir fikirlerinin olmadığını ortaya koymuştur. Fakat, katılımcıların birçoğu CEFR ve ELP’nin İngiliz Dili Öğretmen Eğitimi programlarına entegre edilmesi gerektiğini belirtmiştir.
In 2006 the educational faculty curricula was modified by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) in order to meet the social, educational and political expectations; the new program has given more place to the applied content (Coşkun, 2008; Seferoğlu, 2006). The new curriculum is based on the Common Framework Programme for European Languages (CEFR), which provides a common foundation for language programs. Despite these developments in the new program, very few studies have studied the relationship between the new English Language Teacher Education curriculum and the CEFR (Hismanoğlu,2013). This study, the University of Hacettepe English Language and Education 4. It aims to reveal the students’ level of awareness of CEFR and ELP. A short survey of Hismanoğlu (2013) adapted to English teacher candidates was implemented in order to study the level of awareness of CEFR, ELP and related concepts. The data obtained from the surveys was analyzed through SPSS. The results showed that many of the English language teacher candidates are not aware of CEFR and ELP and have no idea whether CEFR is effective on language teaching methods. However, many participants pointed out that CEFR and ELP should be integrated into the English Language Teacher Training Programs.
In 2006, the curricula of the education faculties were changed by the Council of Higher Education (CHE) to meet the demanding needs of the social, educational and politic domains and methodology and practice components were given more emphasis in the new program (Coşkun, 2008; Seferoğlu, 2006). This new curriculum is based on Common European Framework of Reference for languages (CEFR) which provides a common basis for language rograms (Council of Europe, 2001). Despite these improvements in the new program, there are only few studies looking into the relatedness of the new English Language Teacher Education curriculum and the CEFR (Hismanoğlu, 2013). With regard to this issue, the main goal of this study is to find out the awareness level of forth year ELT students at Hacettepe University with regard to the CEFR and the ELP. In order to examine to what extent the last year prospective English teachers are aware of the CEFR, ELP and related concepts about these terms, a short questionnaire adapted from Hismanoglu (2013) was administered to the participants. The data derived from the questionnaire were analyzed through SPSS. The results show that the prospective English language teachers do not have much knowledge about CEFR and ELP and most of them do not have any ideas whether CEFR has an impact on language teaching techniques or not. However, most of them agree that CEFR and ELP should be taken into account and be incorporated into English language teacher education program.
