Çevirinin dil öğrenimi ve öğretiminde en etkili dil kullanma araçlarından biri olduğu bilinir. Çalışmanın amacını öncelikle yabancı dil öğretiminde çevirinin Türk öğrenicilerdeki algısı üzerine etkisini incelemek; daha sonra yabancı dil öğretiminde çevirinin yerini ve önemini tartışmak ve yabancı dil öğretimine ve öğrenicilere katkılarını belirlemek; son olarak öğrenicileri dil ve çeviri becerilerini geliştirmeye teşvik etmek oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmada, betimsel tarama modeline dayalı nicel araştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın örneklemini, Kırıkkale Üniversitesi Fransızca Mütercim-Tercümanlık Anabilim Dalı’nın dördüncü sınıfında öğrenim gören 25 öğrenici oluşturmuştur. Çalışmanın veri toplama aracını anket soruları oluşturmuştur. Anket, öğrenicilerin çevirinin algı üzerindeki etkisini 5’ten 1’e kadar değerlendirdikleri 18 sorudan oluşmuştur. Verileri değerlendirmek için Likert tipi ölçek kullanılmıştır. Ölçeğin Cronbach alfa katsayısı % 87,9 olarak bulunmuştur. Anketin güvenilirlik ve geçerlik düzeyi hesaplanmıştır. Çalışmanın sonunda elde edilen veriler SPSS programı aracılığıyla incelenmiş ve t-testi ve frekans tabloları aracılığıyla değerlendirilmiştir. İstatiksel sonuçlara göre, yabancı dil öğretiminde çevirinin örneklemi oluşturan Türk öğrenicilerin algısı üzerinde olumlu etkisi olduğu saptanmıştır. Çevirinin özellikle sözcük, dilbilgisi, deyim ve terminoloji bilgisini geliştirdiği ve öğrenicileri okumaya ve araştırmaya yönlendirdiği saptanmıştır. Çevirinin kalıcı bilgiler sağladığı, bellek kapasitesini artırdığı, sözlük ve internet kullanım alışkanlığı kazandırdığı, anadil bilincini uyandırdığı, dillerarası karşılaştırma ve olumlu aktarım yapma becerisini geliştirdiği, öngörüde bulunma, yorum yapma ve doğru karar alma yeteneğini artırdığı, çok yönlü ve hızlı düşünme yeteneği geliştirdiği ve zengin bir bakış açısı kazandırdığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Araştırma verilerinden elde edilen sonuca göre, yabancı dil öğretiminde çeviri dört temel dil becerisi arasında beşinci beceri olarak yerini almalıdır.
Translation is known to be one of the most effective means of language use in language learning and teaching. The purpose of the study is first to study the impact of translation in foreign language teaching on the perception of Turkish students; then to discuss the place and importance of translation in foreign language teaching and to determine its contribution to foreign language teaching and students; finally, to encourage students to develop their language and translation skills. In the study, the quantial research method was used based on the visual scan model. The examples of the study were made by 25 students who studied in the fourth class of the French Interpretation and Translation Department of the University of Kırıkkale. The data collection tool of the study created survey questions. The survey consisted of 18 questions in which students assessed the impact of translation on perception from 5 to 1. Likert type scale is used to evaluate data. The Cronbach alpha ratio was 87.9%. The level of reliability and validity of the survey is calculated. The data obtained at the end of the study was studied through the SPSS program and evaluated through t-test and frequency tables. As is known, the translation is one of the most efficient means of using language in language teaching and learning. The aims of this study are first to analyze the effect of translation on the perception of Turkish learners of foreign language teaching activity by the means of a questionnaire; then to discuss the place and importance of translation in foreign language teaching, and to define its contributions to language teaching and learners; and finally, to encourage learners to develop their language and translation competence. To this end, it was used quantitative research method based on descriptive survey model in the study. Target sample composed of 25 learners in the fourth grade in the Department of French Translation and Interpretation at Kırıkkale University. Data collection tool of research composed of questions of the questionnaire. It contained 18 propositions to evaluate the frequency of the effect of translation on perception (from 5 to 1). To obtain these data, it was used Likert type scale. It was calculated the level of confidence and validity of the questionnaire. As a final phase, it was analyzed the data obtained via SPSS programme and evaluated the data by means of a table of T test and frequency. And according to these statistical results, it was observed a positive effect of translation on the perception of Turkish learners who composed of our sample in foreign language teaching. It was determined that the translation allowed particularly to fortify the knowledge lexical, grammatical, expressive and terminological, and to guide learners to read and research. In this research, it was deduced that the translation contributed learners to get the lasting knowledge; to enhance the memory capacity; to get learners adopt a habit of using the dictionary and the internet; to raise the awareness of the native language; to develop the ability of the interlinguistics comparison and positive transmission; to enhance the ability of predicting, making comment, and making accurate decision; to improve the ability of multilateral and quick thinking, and to bring learners in well perspective. Therefore, it can be said in relation with the findings of this research that the translation must take its place, as the fifth competence, in the teaching of foreign languages among the fundamental language competences.
