Yabancı Dil Türkçe Öğreten İngilizce Öğretmenleri İle Bir Durum İncelemesi: “Türkçe Balta Girmemiş Orman’’

Yabancı dil olarak Türkçe öğrenimine olan ilgi son yıllarda artmıştır. Bu artış, bu alanda donanımlı öğretmen yetiştirme ihtiyacını da beraberinde getirmiştir. Bu çalışmalar günümüzde hâlâ anadili Türkçe olan ancak çoğunluğu Türkçenin yabancı dil olarak öğretilmesine yönelik bir eğitim almamış akademisyenler tarafından yürütülmektedir. Bu akademisyenler çoğunlukla Dilbilim, Türk Dili ve Edebiyatı, Türkçe, İngilizce, Fransızca, Almanca Öğretmenlikleri bölümlerinden mezun olmuş eğitimcilerdir. İngilizce öğretmenliği eğitimi almış, anadili Türkçe olan ve Türkçeyi yabancı dil olarak öğreten öğretmenlerin özyeterlik inancının ölçüldüğü bu çalışmada özyeterlik anketi, bireysel görüşmeler ve ders gözlemleri yollarıyla veri toplanmıştır. Toplanan verilerin analizinde, kendi anadilini öğretmenin avantajları ve dezavantajları ile Türkçe gramerinin anlatımında zorluk yaşanan alanlar üzerinde yoğunlaşılmıştır. Yabancı dil olarak Türkçe öğretimine özgü bir eğitim, seminer, staj vs. dönemi geçirmeden bu alanda eğitim vermeye başlayan öğretmenlerin özyeterlik inanç düzeylerinin düşük olduğu; bu durumun öğretmenlerin sınıf içi eğitsel etkinlik seçimlerini ve öğretim ile ilgili diğer kararlarını etkilediği ortaya çıkmıştır. Toplanan verilerden yola çıkarak, Türkçeyi yabancı dil olarak öğretecek akademisyenlerin eğitimiyle ilgili çıkarım ve önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

The interest in learning Turkish as a foreign language has increased in recent years. This increased the need for educational teachers in this area. These studies are carried out by academics who are still native Turkish but have not received a training to teach Turkish as a foreign language. These academics are mostly educators who have graduated from the departments of linguistics, Turkish Language and Literature, Turkish, English, French, German Teaching. In this study, teachers who have received English teaching education, who are native Turkish and teaching Turkish as a foreign language have measured the belief in self-sufficiency through self-sufficiency survey, individual conversations and class observations. In the analysis of the collected data, he focused on the advantages and disadvantages of teaching his own native language and the areas of difficulties in the narration of the Turkish grammar. As a foreign language, teachers who begin to provide education in this field without passing a period of training, seminars, internships, etc. specific to the teaching of the Turkish language have low levels of self-sufficiency beliefs; this situation has turned out that teachers have an impact on the choice of classroom educational activities and other decisions related to teaching. Based on the collected data, conclusions and recommendations on the training of academics who will teach Turkish as a foreign language have been made.

Learning Turkish as a foreign language has gained importance and popularity in the past few decades. This growing demand has also brought out the need for trained educators of Turkish as a foreign language. Turkish is still being taught by academicians who are mostly have not received a training course which is specific to teaching Turkish as a foreign language. These courses are mostly being taught by educators who hold Linguistics, Turkish Language and Literature, Turkish, English, French or German Language Education degrees. In this study, self-efficacy beliefs of English teachers who are teaching their native language, Turkish, as a foreign language were measured. Data was collected through a survey, interviews and lesson observations. Collected data was used to determine the level of self-efficacy beliefs, the effects of nativeness in the target language, and difficulties in teaching Turkish grammar. Results show that even though they are the native speakers of Turkish, English teachers’ self-efficacy belief levels were low, and this state affects the choice of in-class activities and other educational decisions of the particular teachers.
