In the globalized world, the demand for consumption increases production and causes more use of natural resources. This increasing situation, along with industrialization, has a negative impact on the environment and even threatens the viable nature and the human future. To address these problems, public legal controls are strengthened, and the pressure of national and international civil society organizations is trying to awareness the producer and consumer sector. One of the industries you need to be aware is the chemistry industry. Although the existence and development of the chemical sector is of great importance for a country, chemical production comes at the forefront of the production methods that harm nature. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on "green applications" especially in the chemical sector. One of these green applications is the Green Supply Chain Management (YTYZ). YTYZ aims to be more sensitive to the environment, to clean the production and to preserve the quality of life of the animals. In this context, the purpose of the research is to reveal how Green Supply Chain Management is applied in companies operating in the chemical industry. The sample of the research is made by 25 companies that produce chemicals in Mersin. These companies have been reached using the non-probability judicial sampling method and have been thoroughly discussed with the companies. The research has found that companies do not have sufficient knowledge about YTZY, that this method is considered a cost-increasing element, that it is applied to the YTZY practices due to legal obligations and controls, and that the practices on this discipline are not fully adopted.
The desire for consumption results in further increase in production by usage of natural resources in a globalizing world. Having been increasing along with industrialization, this situation has negative influences on environment and even begins to threaten livable nature and future of human beings. Statutory audits become stricter in the public, awareness has been raising among the producers and consumers with the restraints of national and international non-governmental organizations in order to cope with these issues. One of the industries required to be conscious is chemical industry. Despite the fact that existence and development of chemical industry has a significant role for any country, chemical production is one of the primary production methods that are environmentally hazardous. Therefore, it is required to focus on “green implementations” particularly in chemical industry. One of these green implementations is Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM). GSCM aims at being more sensitive to environment, sustaining clean production and, above all, protecting quality of life related to living beings. In this regard, the objective of research is to reveal how Green Supply Chain Management has being implemented in the companies being operated in chemical industry. The sample of this research is comprised of 25 companies that have been making production in Mersin. These companies were contacted through nonstochastic judgement sampling method and in-depth interviews were carried out. As a result of the research, it has been understood that the companies have no efficient knowledge regarding GSCM, this method is considered as a factor increasing cost, GSCM implementations are applied due to statutory obligations and audits and that such applications regarding this discipline have not been fully adopted.
