The main purpose of this study is to examine the correlation between locus of control, stress level and depression level of university students. In this study the survey method was used. The sample of the study included 314 university students who were 208 government university students and 111 private university students. In order to collect data, the researchers designed “Demographic Information Form” which consisted of gender, age, faculty, department, and the researchers also used “Rotter Internal-External Locus of Control Scale” (1966) which was adopted into Turkish by Dağ (1990), Stress Scale Baltas (2000) and Beck Depression Inventory (Beck,1978) which was adopted into Turkish by Şahin (1989). To analyze data, frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean, independent samples t-test and correlation and regression analysis were used according to characteristics subcategories and variables. The results of the study show that university students have relatively more external locus of control; effected more from physical stressors (in comparison to others); have tendency to show depressive symptoms . It is assumed that locus of control and self-evaluation style, in other words internal stressors predict depression level significantly.
