Nigde Province epic-narrative tradition can be traced from the early 19th century. Epics have been shaped by the common suffering and tragic events of the society. Epics have been performed in order to increase the interest of the listeners, accompanied by pattern-melodies or rhythm-free melodies. The Ashıq (Turkish Epic Teller) who tell the epic sometimes performed this tradition with their instruments (baglama, like lute) and sometimes with their voices. In the context of this research, after describing the traditional structure of the epic-narrative types on the Anatolia, the musical elements in the epics were exhibited. After the determination of the past and present situation of the epic tradition in Niğde Province, the musical characteristics of the epics compiled from the ashıqs are examined. As a result, it has been found that the tradition of epic-narrative has lived up to the 1980s and has now disappeared. In order to tell the epic, ashıqs and poets traveled in certain places in the city and they sold printed epic texts. In the past, it was seen that epic telling was a profession and attracted great attention of people. It was determined that one of the epics that was compiled in a rhythm-free melody and the other was performed as a pattern-melody.
