Except some exceptions all around the world universities enrol students due selection exams and train them towards a profession which they could be employed when graduated. Therefore, university and department preferences of students are steered by their capabilities in the selection exams and profession choices also are effective in this process. In addition, vocational expertise which handled due university education and employment expectations after the graduation are in close interaction with economic and population growth rates. Lack of proportional equality between population growth and economic growth in cause and effect reaction chain pave the way of increasing unemployment rates for university graduates. Thus, this fact inevitably steer student preferences who want to have a favourable profession when graduated. In Turkey, in connection with above mentioned facts, some university departments whose employment possibilities started to decrease face with sustainability problems. One of the basic aims of this paper is to search whether international relations (IR) departments will come across with such problem in near future or not. The other aim is to analyse what are the employment expectations of IR students studying in Karadeniz Technical University.
