This paper analyses the use of right to reply and rectification in the period of Democrat Party. The paper, considering the press law amendment in the 1956 as the starting point, evaluates the period until 1960 in the case of Ulus, Republican People’s Party’s non-official daily. By using historical document analysis, the first pages of all copies of the daily in this period are examined. The paper reveals that due to the failures in the economic policies and political affairs, the DP increased the pressure on the press and transformed the right to reply and rectification as an oppression and control mechanism in order to avoid criticism of the government
