This study aims at identifying students-teachers’ views about the contribution of the teaching method to the skills regarding designing and practising experiment in the course of Teaching Science and Laboratory Practice I, which exists in the Primary Science Education curriculum. The sample of the study consists of 61 tertiary students enrolled in the primary science education department of Necatibey Education Faculty in Balıkesir University. A questionnaire including open-ended questions and semi-structured interviews were used as data collection instruments. The results indicate that students have positive views about the course of teaching. However, students expressed that they had some difficulty during the processes of designing and practicing experiments. Students emphasized that the lack of or inadequacy of materials and being asked to perform the experiments on their peers caused them to experience a problem in maintaining the appropriate level. Additionally, student-teachers stated that although they lacked theoretical knowledge or self-confidence, laboratory practices were found to eliminate those shortcomings.
