The work of Fariduddin Attar who is one of the 12.-13. century sufi poets of Persian literature, Mantikuttayr (The Conference of the Birds) was translated to Chagatai language in 1499, which was named as Lisanuttayr (The Language of the Birds) by Ali Shir Navai. One of the stories in this work which is very famous is Sheikh San’an Epic. One copy of this story which is placed in a two-story journal (Supplèment Turc. 978) in the National Library of France (Bibliotèque Nationale de France) is available to us. In this story we are currently working on the attention is drawn to Oghuz language elements as well as Chagatai language elements Therefore, the study focuses on specific and distinctive elements of Chagatai and Oghuz languages by referring to the aforementioned manuscript. Having introduced Chagatai language elements through the examples which have been selected from the text, the Oghuz language elements will be comparatively presented.
