Her toplumun yaşam biçimini yansıtan farklı maddi kültür değerleri vardır. Slav toplumlarında özellikle de Doğu Slav grubunda yer alan Rus halkının yaşamında semaver, akağaç, sarafan, vodka, kefir ve uşanka2 önemli maddi kültür unsurlarındandır. Bir asrı aşkın süredir matryoşkalar da Rus toplumunun maddi kültür değerleri arasında yer almaktadır. Bu çalışmada matryoşkaların3 tarihçesi, genel özellikleri konularına değinilecek olup çalışmanın matryoşka türleri hakkında bilgi verilmesi amaçlanmaktadır.
