The most important factor that distinguishes the post-Cold War period of Turkey-Russia relations from the bilateral affairs during the Empire and USSR is increasing direct contacts between the peoples of two countries. Both Turkey and Russia are undergoing a dynamic political and economic transformation process. Similar foreign policy approaches of two countries and strengthening political dialog are effective elements of growing relations beyond economic sphere. Even if relations between two countries could not reach the level of strategic partnership, relations have gained a strategic dimension in the areas such as energy and trade.
