The first serious political opposition movements in Turkey began in the middles of the XIX. Century. Parliamentary opposition in Turkey is began in Second Constituonal Period. Parliamentary opposition in Turkey has contiuned in the First 10 years of Grand National Assembly of Turkey. The first opposition movement in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey was a group, called ‘İkinci Grup’ (Second Group). Progressive Republican Party (Terakkiperver Cumhuriyet Fırkası), who founded in November, 1924, was the first opposition party of the Republic of Turkey. After Sheikh Sait (Şeyh Sait) Rebellion in February, 1925; Progressive Republican Party closed down in same year. After Progressive Republican Party, second opposition party of the Republic of Turkey is founded in August, 1930. Name of this party was Liberal Republican Party (Serbest Cumhuriyet Fırkası). This party founded by directly order of Atatürk. Liberal Republican Party, which taken an intense interest in a very short time, dissolved itself on November 17, 1930. Liberal Republican Party was the last multi-party system experiment on Atatürk period. After Liberal Republican Party, opposition in Grand National Assembly of Turkey has came to an end for the next 16 years.
