The fact that there are differences between women and men in use of language is determined especially by linguistic studies The linguistic sensitiveness of woman and the view that she has a different language world from man are topics in expression and image studies It is known that depending on culture the position and identity of woman are determined by social norms These norms certainly cause women to use language differently as well as their linguistic behaviours to differ from men This difference is not only seen in text writing but also in translation In this paper how language use related to gender is reflected to translated text in translation of a literary work is discussed In this respect an Austrian writer Ingeborg Bachmann’s story Undine Geht is going to be considered in terms of translation studies In this study the translations of the story by Bachmann who describes woman’s world and woman man relations made by a female translator and a male translator are compared In this comparison examining whether there are linguistic differences between the two translations how far the gender of the translator directs translated text is questioned Keywords: Ingeborg Bachmann Undine Geht gender based use of language translator’s gender identity
