Kurdish nationalism which has carried Kurds not only as a cultural but also as a political community up to the present, is basically a product of the nation-states dividing Kurdistan into four parts. In this form, Kurdish nationalism has been shaped in struggle with Turkish, Persian or Arap nationalism. Thus, the ‘other’ for he Kurds in each part has been different. For example, the ‘other’ for an Iraqi Kurd has been Arab or the ‘other’ for a Kurd in Turkey has been Turk. This difference has also been reinforced with national movement practices. In this context, Kurdish identity has a hybrid nature in relation with the ‘other’ of each nationalist project
