Özet:

The Correlation between the Way Turkish Language Teachers Motivate their Students and Primary School Sixth Grade Students' Attitudes toward the Course. The purpose of the present study is to identify the correlation between the way Turkish language teachers motivate their students and these students' attitudes towards the course, and to determine whether the way teachers motivate their students depends on their gender, length of service and department background. The study was based on the survey model. The data on the teachers were collected through "The Teachers Motivating Students Scale", which had been developed by Sunbul, Kesici and Bozgeyikli (2003), whereas the data on the students were collected via "The Attitude toward Turkish Language Course Scale", designed by Kusdemir Kayıran (2007). The findings on the sub-problems were analyzed through the t test (independent sample t test), one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Kruskal Wallis-H test and simple partial correlation technique. The findings suggested intermediate level, positive and a significant correlation between the level of the teachers' motivating students and the students' attitudes towards the course. Furthermore, the way the teachers motivated their students differed depending on their gender and length of service whereas their department background was not a significant factor.
