This article, aiming to contribute to the field of power management, describes the nature of the concept of power, its relationship with other administrative concepts, the importance of power in administration, and how power is to manifest itself in administrative practices, and provides an evaluation of the current use of power in Turkish administrative practices. Following a definition of the concept of power, its sources and uses, and its place and how the use of power is reflected in administrative practices, an evaluation of previous research on the subject of power management in Turkey is provided. In management, the issue of how power is used and what grounds it comes from is essential if the problems are to be solved cooperatively, rationally, and legally. A correct understanding of the concept of power makes it possible to provide a fair and equalitarian environment, and thus legitimizes the management. Therefore, managers do not only need to carefully analyze what sources of power they can benefit from and how they can make use of them, but they also need to know how to control intra-organizational power dynamics so as to direct them according to organizational objectives, and adopt a suitable course of action. The manager’s task is to use power efficiently in line with organizational objectives. It can be said that the amount of research into the concept of power management in the Turkish Social Sciences literature is little, and thus it is believed that this article, as well as further research into this concept will contribute enormously to the development of managers working in public and private sector in our country.
