As modern organizations must be faster, provide the highest quality service, be more efficient, and ultimately more profitable, empowerment has emerged as an increasingly popular initiative. The other reason of such popularity of empowerment is that managerial work is undergoing such massive and rapid change that many managers are re-assessing their management style. Faced with an extraordinary level of complexity, they realised that traditional sources of power erode and the old managerial tools lose their magic. Therefore, managers now want to empower their workforce. What they will receive in return are employees who are less risk-aversive, more flexible, more creative and innovative, and more motivated and satisfied. As "employee empowerment" as a term is frequently used in management circles, in this study it is attempted to find answers for the following questions: What is employee empowerment? What do the various theoretical voices have to say about the concept? What are the effects of empowerment on organizations and individuals? What are the types of empowerment established in organizations? In the conclusion section, the paper suggests how empowerment can be introduced into organizations in such a manner that it is embraced by the whole workforce.
