Selçuklular, Türklerin İslâmiyeti kabul etmelerinin ardından, başta Nizamiye medreseleri olmak muhtelif ilmî ve kültürel faaliyetler ile İslâm medeniyetinin ve İslâmî ilimlerin oluşumu ve gelişimine önemli katkılar sağlamışlardır. Bu dönemde tefsir ilminde de mühim gelişmeler yaşanmıştır. Tedvin dönemi birikimi, belirli bir tertip ve tasnif anlayışı ele alınmış, yeni tarz eserler telif edilmiştir. Rivâyet tefsirinde, Vâhidî, Beğâvî, İ. Cevzî, İşârî tefsirde Kuşeyrî, Bilimsel tefsir’de Gazzâlî ve Râzî, Mutezile tefsirinde Zemahşerî, Şia tefsirinde Tûsî ve Tabersî gibi müfessirler, bu dönemde yetişmiş, çeşitli tefsir ekollerinin önemli örneklerini kaleme alarak kendilerinden sonraki nesillere kaynaklık etmişler, Tefsir yönelişlerinde çığır açmışlardır.
