Georges Dumezil, a well known man of science who had taught in Istanbul University between the years 1925-1931, was acquainted with Caucasian people living in Anatolia during the years of teaching in Turkey. Along with other subject matters, he made some studies on Caucasian mythology and languages. He published his works in the Annual Journal of Daru’l-Funun Faculty of Theology and Journal of Turkish Anthropology. Dumezil kept in touch with Turkey by studying on Caucasian mythology. Though he was one of the first scholars of history of religions in Turkey, he was recognized more in European countries. This paper will explore the scope of the works by and thought of Dumezil along with the question of his place in the field of Turkish history of religions.
