Fiilî bir durum olarak tarih boyunca hep var olan tefsir ihtilaflarının zaman zaman kısıtlanma ya da olumsuz gösterilme çabalarına maruz kaldığı görülmektedir. Ebu’l-Abbas Taḳıyyuddîn İbn Teymiyye (ö. 728/1328) ve bu hususta onu takip edenlerce ortaya konulan bu girişimin görüşlerini ayet ve hadislerle, ayrıca sahâbeden nakledilen tefsir ihtilaflarının mahiyeti üzerinden temellendirmeye çalıştıkları müşahede edilmektedir. Oysa ihtilafın olumsuz resmedildiği bu delil ve gerekçeler ilmî konulardaki ihtilafları kapsamamaktadır. Çünkü ayet ve hadislerde ihtilaf olgusunun olumsuz olarak anılması ve yerilmesi, Müslümanların kendi aralarında tefrikaya ve bölünmeye yol açacak türden fikir ayrılığına düşmemelerinin vurgulanması amacına matuftur. Sahâbe arasındaki tefsir ihtilaflarının da basitleştirilerek her zaman tenevvü ihtilaflarına indirgenmesinin makul olmadığı ve bunlar arasında tezat ihtilafı diyebileceğimiz yaklaşım farkından kaynaklanan değerlendirmelerin de bulunduğu görülmektedir. Dahası, söz konusu yaklaşımın hem reel durumla hem de bilimsel özgürlükle bağdaşmadığı açıktır. Ayrıca bu durum, tefsir faaliyetini seleften (sahâbe, tâbiûndan ve etbâu’t-tâbiînden oluşan ilk üç nesil) aktarılan rivayetlere indirgeme anlamı taşımaktadır. Bu çalışmada Kur’an ayetlerinin yorumlanması esnasında ortaya çıkan ihtilafların kısıtlı hale getirilerek tefsirin rivayete dayanan bir faaliyete indirgenmesi anlamına gelecek bu yaklaşımın temelleri incelenecek ve bu hususta dayanılan delillerin ileri sürülen iddiaya mesnet teşkil edip etmediği tespit edilecektir.
