There are many controversial subjects in the Turkish grammar writing. Classification of word phrases, the parameters used in determining the parts of sentence, and distinguishing the types of sentences are still being discussed. One of these subjects is concerning compound sentence. In recent years a different view has been expressed that there is no compound sentence in Turkish but in Turkish grammars it is generally stated that Turkish has three types of compound sentences. These are listed as "conditional compound sentence", "compound sentence with ki", "nested compound sentence". In some grammars, there is also a fourth type with the name "introductory compound sentence". This article deals with the sentence which is regarded as "compound sentence". The sentence Ali ‘Geleceğim’ dedi“Ali said that I will come.” is generally accepted as “compound sentence” in Turkish grammars. Geleceğim is evaluated as an internal sentence, Ali dedi is called main sentence. In this article, it is argued that these forms can not be accepted as compound sentence. It is also suggested a new term “sentence phrase” for this type of internal sentence.
