Özet:

Parliamentary system that started in Europe came to Ottoman Empire as Chamber of Deputies (Meclis-i Mebusan) in 1876. It had continued its work in various separate legislative sessions in Istanbul until 1920. It convened in Ankara under the name of Great National Assembly in April, 23 1920. Since its inception, parliamentary elections have been held 26 times up to now. However, our study comprises the first eight legislative sessions of the Grand National Assembly. After the proclamation of Turkish Republic, two trials were done for transition to multi-party system. These failed trials deprived the system of opposing parties that are fundamental organs of democratic systems. Republican People’s Party governed Turkey under single-party rule until 1950. Within this period, this study tries to present political, social, cultural and economical profiles of the political elite class representing Antalya city in Turkish Grand National Assembly. The present study investigated the politicians in terms of their educational levels, number of children, hometowns, languages they speak, ability to be re-elected, and this study also included the ones who have written works and remembered by the city. On the other hand, their works under the assembly were also investigated. Thus, as a result of the study, their contributions to the development process of Turkish Republic, particularly the city they represent.
