The changing perception proceeding from the modernism/postmodernism debate has brought up the relationship between art and politics. The modernist thesis about that art should be freed from politics, firstly, has been weakened by Frankfurt School's view that the borderline between art and politics had been undetermined and inspired postmodern interpretations. As a requirement of neoliberal politics of economy in 1980's, the distinctive role of the states on cultural field has been significantly transmitted to private corporations. So, world of business has raised its lot of politic power. The relation on art and politics has been ambigously elaborated by both interactions of the subjects on these spheres and more endogenous issues such as styles, genres, and movements. This work studies these changing perceptions in the context of art's engagement to politics and features some exemplifications from world's and Turkey's art scenes.
