Abstract:

The consequences of war before the Republic and the effects of socio-economic developments had been effective in the determination of health policies in the early years of the new state, as in all areas. The lack of medical staff due to wars, the trouble with medications and epidemic diseases were threatening the health of the public. Therefore, during the Republic, the issue of health was treated as a national case, the obligatory service law was issued in order to send doctors to the undoctoral countryside and began to effectively fight epidemic diseases. In the early years of the Republic, the developments in the field of health and epidemic have also affected the scale of diseases. One of the centers where significant developments in the field of healthcare were occurring during this period was Bitlis. In Bitlis during this period, epidemic diseases such as scratch, flowers, trauma, typhus, were effective. During this period, the government has begun to extend its organization in the field of healthcare to cover the scope, to close the gap between doctors and other healthcare staff and to take measures to combat epidemic diseases.
