Simin Behbahani (d. 2014), one of the important female poets of contemporary Iranian literature, is considered one of the founders of modern poetry in Iran. Behbahani, an activist poet, has been nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature twice. In her poems, it is seen that she touches on social issues, the problems faced by women, the troubles of the people, and the pressures created by the society. It is possible to say that she holds a mirror to Iranian society. She frequently used the gazelle, one of the classical verse types, and proved to be successful in this genre. Although she used a classical verse type, the subjects she wrote carry traces of her own society and time. It is noteworthy that she also made use of folkloric elements in her poems. It is seen that she uses ancient legends, tales, proverbs and old beliefs, even children's games, in her poems. In this sense, it is revealed that she masterfully blends the past and modern society and has a background in classical literature. Behbahani constructs her own poetry by mixing this accumulation with modern time and society. Legends, stories in old texts, folk beliefs and superstitions have a prominent place in Simin Behbahani's poetry. In this sense, after briefly mentioning the life of Simin Behbahani, the cultural-folkloric elements that stand out in her poems will be discussed. It will be focused on how these elements are explained in legends and how Behbahani uses them.
