In Modern Portfolio Theories there are two different methods in which investors can perform portfolio optimization processes. These methods are the Medium-Varyans Method developed by Markowitz (1952) and the Single Index Method developed by Sharpe (1963) and later developed by Elton & Gruber (1976) that lay the foundation of the Modern Portfolio Theory. The aim of this study is to compare the performance of the Methods of Medium-Varians and Single Index Portfolio Optimization in developed and developing countries. In the analysis carried out for this purpose, the Sharpe Rate used the daily data of the stock exchanges in the developed and developing countries in the U.S., Asia and the European continents and the performance measurement method, which indicates the risk premium to be obtained in response to a unit risk. The results of the analyses were found that the average-variant model performed better than the single index model in developed countries, and that the single index model performed better than the average-variant model in developing countries. According to the results obtained, investors who want to create an optimal portfolio with stock exchanges in developed countries are recommended to use the Medium-Varyans Model, investors who want to create an optimal portfolio with stock exchanges in developing countries, and investors who want to use the Single Index Model.
