Ekonomisi oldukça kötü bir durumda iken içinde bulunduğu stratejik ve jeopolitik durumundan dolayı Birinci Dünya Savaşı'na dâhil olan Osmanlı Devleti, savaşın finansmanını sağlayabilmek için çeşitli yöntemlere başvurmak zorunda kalmıştır. Savaştan dolayı devlet hazinesinin büyük bir kısmı orduya yönlendirilmiş, bu da cephe gerisinde kalan Osmanlı halkının oldukça zor günler geçirmesine neden olmuştur. Öyle ki savaş sürecinde cephede askeri mücadele verilirken cephe gerisinde kalan halk açlık ve sefaletin pençesinde yaşam mücadelesi vermiştir. Ancak savaş ortamının meydana getirdiği koşullardan yararlanan bir grup bir taraftan ihtikârlık yaparak fiyatların yükselmesine neden olurken, diğer taraftan servetlerine servet katmıştır. Savaşın sonlarına doğru oldukça zenginleşen bu grup, Osmanlı kamuoyu tarafından “harp zenginleri” olarak isimlendirilmiş ve toplumun tepkisine neden olmuştur. Bu çalışmada da Birinci Dünya Savaşı sürecinde ortaya çıkan harp zenginlerinin dönemin önde gelen gazetelerinden olan Sabah, Tanin ve Vakit Gazeteleri'ne yansımaları ele alınmıştır. İncelediğimiz gazetelerde harp zenginlerine geniş yer verildiği görülmektedir. Mezkûr gazetelerde harp zenginleri eleştirilmiş ve kamuoyunun beklentilerine yer verilmiştir. Bununla birlikte harp zenginleri konusunda çeşitli fikir ayrılıklarının yaşandığı anlaşılmaktadır.
The Ottoman State, which was part of the First World War due to its strategic and geopolitical situation while its economy was quite poor, had to use various methods to provide funding for the war. Because of the war, a large part of the state treasury was directed to the army, which led to the Ottoman people behind the front to spend quite difficult days. So that during the war the military struggle was given on the front; the people behind the front gave life struggle in the edge of hunger and misery. But a group of people who benefit from the conditions created by the war environment; on the one hand, making loyalty causes prices to rise, while on the other hand, adding wealth to their wealth. This group, which became quite wealthy by the end of the war, was named "harp rich" by the Ottoman public and caused the reaction of the society. In this study, we also discussed the reflections of the harp wealthy who emerged during the First World War from the leading newspapers of the time, Sabah, Tanin and Time. In the newspapers we reviewed, we see a wide range of places for the Harp rich. In the Mezkûr newspapers the harp riches were criticized and placed in the public's expectations. However, it is clear that there are various differences in minds about the Harp rich.

So much so that, during the war, while there was military struggle in the front, the people behind the front were struggling for survival in the grip of hunger and misery. However, a group benefiting from the conditions created by the war environment increased the prices by profiteering and added wealth to their wealth. This group, which became very rich towards the end of the war, was named as “the war profiteers” by the Ottoman public and drew reaction in the society. In this study, the reflections of the profiteers of war who appeared in the World War I in the leading newspapers of the period, Sabah, Tanin and Vakit, were discussed. In the newspapers examined, it was seen that the war profiteers were given a wide coverage. The war profiteers were criticized and expectations of the public were given in the aforementioned newspapers. However, it is understood that there were various differences of opinion about the war profiteers.
